Estherville Meteorite For Sale
The Estherville meteorite was witnessed crash landing to Earth on May 10, 1879. It’s bright white entry and trailing smoke cloud was accompanied by thunderous sounds which bystanders reported, “Shook the earth, shattered windows, and shifted furniture” inside homes. The bolide broke into three pieces. The largest recovered mass weighed a whopping 437 pounds and its crater was 12′ wide and 6′ deep. After study in the lab it was classified as a rare meteorite type known as a mesosiderite.
Mesosiderites are a unique and understudied variety of meteorite, consisting of both nickel-iron and silicate in approximately equal parts. The breccias have an irregular texture, so they will reveal tremendous mixtures of metal and stone when cut and polished.
