What is Kapton Foil?
Kapton Foil, silver-colored on the front with a gold backing, was attached to the outside of the Command Module in order to protect the spacecraft from the extreme environment of deep space.
How did we come to own it?
Most of the Kapton Foil burned away during reentry, but what survived was often peeled off and kept by members of NASA’s recovery crews as a souvenir of the history Apollo mission they worked on.
