Description
Upon study, Twannberg was classified as a IIG. This rare group has only six meteorites in its class. As stated in a study conducted by John T. Wasson, “The members of this group have low-Ni contents in the metal and large amounts of coarse schreibersite ((Fe,Ni)3P); their bulk P contents are 17–21 mg/g, the highest known in iron meteorites. Their S contents are exceptionally low, ranging from 0.2 to 2 mg/g. We report neutron-activation-analysis data for metal samples; the data generally show smooth trends on element-Au diagrams. The low Ir and high Au contents suggest formation during the late crystallization of a magma.”
