After the process is complete and unstable material has been removed, the now-stable meteorite takes the shape of a “nugget,” similar to this piece. Meteorite enthusiasts believe that “nuggets” could be the shape a pallasite asteroid has in space before entering Earth’s atmosphere.

Description

The Meteorite Men found several very large masses at Admire. The most impressive, weighing in at 223 pounds, has been preserved intact and is frequently exhibited at gem shows and museums around the country. Some of the other masses were cut into slices and when prepared examples were taken to the Center for Meteorite Studies at ASU.

The “nuggets” are created when the pallasite is being stabilized; they truly look like “visitors from outer space.”
