Adrar 013 Meteorite 4.4g

Adrar 013 was first purchased from a meteorite dealer in 2023. The classification was completed by Dr. Ansgar Greshake, and scientists found that the meteorite is a melt breccia. Lunar melt breccias liked formed when rocks on the lunar surface were broken and melted by asteroid impacts. Adrar 013 stones fragments are gray/green in color, and included a larger 3-kilogram stone when it was originally classified. The total known weight of Adrar 013 is 3.15 kilograms.

Asteroid impacts produce heat and pressure, and when they impact the surface of Earth or the Moon, they can create impact breccias like Adrar 013. The interior of this lunar meteorite tells a story; large clasts are set in a melt rock matrix rich in anorthite. Pronounced flow and quench textures are also observed. Adrar 013 is also comprised of pigeonite, olivine, and augite, creating an attractive mosaic of textures and colors. Adrar 013 meteorites are highly shocked and present with low grades of terrestrial weathering. Large visible clasts are also visible on the exterior of Adrar 013.
